Public Safety Officer Luis Ruiz saves two lives.

This year at Sgt Luis Ruiz of the Christina Mall Public Safety Team saved two peoples lives while on duty. With his training in AED and CPR training he was able to responded to two medical emergencies.

On Saturday, February 17, 2024 at approximately 3:28 pm, Brio manager reported to Public Safety regarding an adult male employee who fell unconscious in their kitchen while washing dishes. Public Safety responded. Public Safety Supervisor Luis Ruiz and Public Safety Officer Lee Robbins were the first who responded and found the male unresponsive with no pulse. Supervisor Ruiz began administering chest compressions and utilized the AED. Shock was advised and administered with no response. Chest compressions were maintained until the arrival of Paramedics and Fire Department who took over the scene. Paramedics continued administering CPR and AED shocks until 4:00 p.m. when the male was prepared and transported to Christiana Hospital with chest compressions still in progress

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 3:52 P.M. Public Safety K-9 Officer Joseph Perez observed an adult male unconscious and unresponsive at the Target Bus Stop. Public Safety Shift Supervisor Luis Ruiz, Shift Supervisor Matthew Dallago, Public Safety Officer Lee Robbins, and Public Safety Officer Brandon Haslam responded. L. Ruiz applied AED pads on the victim but no shock was administered after analysis. The male became conscious after L. Ruiz completed one (1) chest compression. He was placed in the recovery position and his breathing was monitored until the arrival of Emergency Management Services. Emergency Management Services was contacted and responded. K. Smith was transported to Christiana Hospital for further treatment. AED has been taken out of service for diagnostics evaluation.

Joseph was awarded two life saver commendation awards and life Saving Citation Pin from Security Director Luis Vazquez for his heroics.
