NARCAN Used to Save Shoplifter’s Life at Christiana Mall!

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, at approximately 8:40 pm, Andy Frain Security was called for assistance by Macy’s Loss Prevention regarding an individual who attempted to remove merchandise from their store without rendering payment. After entering the loss prevention office, the shoplifter swallowed an unknown substance, stopped breathing, and passed out. Assistant Security Director, Ann Kriebel and Security Supervisor, Aracelia Jackson responded with an AED and NARCAN.  Assistant Security Director, Ann Kriebel attempted to wake the individual up without success and administered a dose of NARCAN with no response. After administering a second dose, the individual began breathing but was unresponsive. The individual was placed in the recovery position, and his breathing was monitored until the arrival of the Paramedics.

Paramedics and Delaware State Police responded and transported the individual to Christiana Hospital, where it was discovered he had ingested fentanyl. The quick actions of the security officers are credited with saving the shoplifter’s life.
